BOARD & TRAIN CAMP

Due to the impact of Covid-19, we’ve made accommodations to avoid person-to-person contact, in order to protect everyone’s health.

For more information, please review our programs below, and then complete the board and train request at the bottom of the page, or call us at: (760) 460-1047.

Please note: Unfortunately, we’re unable to accept dogs that behave aggressively, are timid/fearful/skittish, or have severe separation anxiety (excessive whining, barking, chewing, or escapist tendencies). Private lessons are a better option for these dogs.

Board and train programs are designed for dogs that require obedience training and minor behavior modification. Since dogs are situation-specific learners, certain behaviors such as chewing, digging, barking, and potty training concerns must also be addressed during our follow-up sessions, which are offered remotely, and are included as part of every board and train program.

If you’d like to enroll your dog in our Board and Train Camp, please inquire about availability as far in advance as possible. Our programs are popular and tend to fill quickly. Summer and holidays are often booked months in advance. Thank you for understanding.

Benefits and Features of our Dog Board and Train Camp:

  1. We train your dog, saving you time and energy. As a follow up, you receive in-home instruction, in which you learn how to maintain your dog’s new training.

  2. In addition to formal training sessions, your dog has the advantage of living with us and having his/her behavior continually and consistently shaped.

  3. We only accept a limited number of dogs at one time, which means that your dog is guaranteed individualized attention and time.

  4. Training methods are dog-friendly and focus on positive reinforcement. Unlike many other facilities, we do not use electronic shock collars (E-collars), physical punishment, or harsh corrections.

  5. Every program includes necessary equipment, (leashes, long lines, training collars), and a detailed training manual. The four-week Master Training Program includes a video of your dog participating in training exercises, which serves as a helpful visual and auditory reference to help you maintain your dog’s skills.

  6. As a part of our three and four-week training programs, dogs are taught house manners (calm behavior, not jumping on furniture or counters).

  7. We offer some of the most complete and comprehensive training available in the San Diego and Riverside areas.

  8. Dogs as young as 10 weeks of age are able to participate in our training programs, meaning less time is spent “undoing” undesirable behavior.

  9. Your dog will live in a cozy home (not a cold outdoor kennel) with the trainer. Yards are clean and comfortable, and dogs are given ample opportunities for exercise, playtime, and socialization in a safe, supervised environment.

  10. We go out of our way to make sure your dog’s stay with us is pleasant and enjoyable. After all training should be effective and fun!

10 day

Is your dog out-of-control…pulling, choking, and dragging you down the street? Is walking your dog such an embarrassment and so physically exhausting that you have practically given up? That is no fun, but there is good news!

This 10-day leash training program will teach your dog how to walk nicely on leash without pulling which translates into a pleasant and enjoyable walk for both of you! No more pitting your strength against your dog! You will finally have the control you need.

In addition to teaching your dog loose leash walking skills, he will learn how to remain by your side (and only one side of you), which makes taking him on a walk a safer experience for both of you. He will also be taught to wait politely at the door and only exit upon your cue, which means no more chasing your dog as he bolts past you, no tripping and falling, and no getting tangled up in leashes as you try to restrain him.

As an integral part of leash training, your dog will enjoy many positive socialization opportunities, and will learn how to greet other dogs and people politely on leash. Unfortunately, many dogs are highly reactive/aggressive on leash because they are not properly socialized at a young age and/or never learn how to greet others on leash.

When you come to a stop, your dog will learn to automatically sit and wait calmly until you start walking again. And, instead of worrying about your dog forging ahead and crossing the street prematurely, he will be taught to sit calmly at street corners and remain sitting until you give him the cue to cross.

Walking equipment will be provided if necessary. All of our equipment is dog-friendly and effective.

Upon graduation, your dog will receive a certificate of completion, and you will receive a 60-minute personalized training session for you and your dog at the trainer’s home.

Within a week of your dog’s return home, we will also come to you for a 60-minute follow up session.

Our 10-day Leash Training Camp is best suited for dogs 16 weeks and older.

Please Note: Leash Training Camp is not suitable for dogs that are aggressive or demonstrate excessive fear on leash. Reactive, fearful, or aggressive dogs are better served with private training sessions.

2-Week Puppy Jump Start

This program focuses on preventing puppies from picking up bad habits, and unintentionally learning and practicing undesirable behaviors. Why? Because any puppy parent will tell you that if you can keep a puppy from developing difficult, unwanted, or dangerous behaviors in the first place, you won’t have to work twice as hard to undo all the bad behaviors that your puppy has learned!

In addition to preventing unwanted behaviors, we focus on instilling good manners and building your puppy’s confidence while we help him adjust to common everyday encounters.

We use proper handling techniques to help get your pup used to being held, touched, lifted, and handled for purposes such as teeth brushing, grooming, Vet visits, leash walking, and traveling.

We also focus on house training basics, help your dog become comfortable with his crate, provide positive social encounters, encourage healthy chewing activities, teach your puppy how to play well with humans and other dogs, and introduce your puppy to a leash, collar, harness or other walking equipment.

In addition to building your pup’s confidence and trust in every day encounters, we introduce obedience basics. We will teach your puppy: sit, down, targeting, and eye contact, drop it, and leave it using hand signals, body language, and vocal cues. These important basics provide the foundation for which all future learning may be built.

On the day that you come to pick up your puppy, you will receive a 60-minute lesson, which will provide you with the tools and guidance you need in order to see continued success after you bring puppy home. We teach you what to do and what not to do. We also show you how to properly praise your pup and how to communicate your intentions and expectations clearly.

Once your pup has completed his stay with us, we follow up with two 60-minute in-home training sessions. This helps transition your pup’s learning from us to you, and insures continued progress in your home.

Please Note: This program is best suited for puppies from 10 weeks to 16 weeks. One set of core vaccinations is required prior to the start of the program.

3-Week Leash-Reactive Rover

The objective of this program is to help your dog feel more comfortable and less anxious around other dogs and/or people when walking on leash in their presence.

The first week of this program is designed to address loose leash walking skills, and the additional two weeks are focused on addressing mild-to-moderate leash aggression and reactivity around other dogs and/or people. We build your dog’s confidence, and help him become calmer and more relaxed on leash in the presence of anxiety-producing stimuli.

Once your dog has completed the program, we teach you how to be a benevolent, effective leader to your dog, both on walks and in the home. We also show you how to properly communicate your intentions and expectations using your voice, hand signals, and body language.

This program is best suited to adolescent and adult dogs 16 weeks and up. Two sets of core vaccinations are required prior to the start of the program.

Please note: All dogs must first be evaluated to determine if they are suitable candidates for this program. Severely leash aggressive dogs, and/or dogs that have bitten other dogs are better helped in private sessions.

All dogs with leash reactive/aggression concerns require ongoing training, management, and consistency from all family members, and proper implementation of the training plan in order for the dog to be successful. Some dogs may require additional training beyond the 3-week program. Additional weeks may be added as desired/necessary.

4-Week Master Training

The four-week program offers the highest level of obedience training and socialization offered. We teach your dog to respond to you quickly even when distractions are present. Distraction proofing is undoubtedly one of the most important elements of training, although it is often overlooked.

Your dog will go on numerous fun field trips (parks, libraries, home improvement stores, feed stores, Starbucks, pet stores, etc.) in order to have extensive socialization and distraction “proofing” opportunities.

In the home your dog will learn good manners and calm behavior. We teach your dog to refrain from counter surfing, garbage raiding, digging, chewing, and jumping on the furniture and guests.

Once your dog has completed the program, we show you how to be a benevolent and effective leader to your dog. We also teach you how to properly communicate your intentions and expectations using your voice, hand signals, and body language.

At graduation, you will receive a video of your dog demonstrating his newly acquired skills. This DVD will serve as an excellent reference and visual reminder of the cues your dog was taught during his stay with us.

Our Master Camp program is best suited to adolescent and adult dogs six months and older. Two sets of core vaccinations are required prior to the start of the program.

Board and train can be an excellent choice for people who don’t have the time, interest, or ability to train their dog. Once your dog has completed the program, follow up lessons will be provided in your home.

For continued success, it is vital that you learn how to work with your dog so that you are able to maintain your dog’s newly acquired training skills. Fortunately, obedience practice can easily be incorporated into a daily routine.

The effectiveness of a completed program depends on various factors, which include the proper participation of the owner, continued practice with the dog, the dog’s temperament, and the health of the dog.

Because we can only accept a limited number of dogs into our board and train program, advance reservations are necessary.
